Gertrudis Alba

Photo representing Gertrudis Alba

Represented by Tia Robbins

I represent Gertrudis Alba, a free parda woman born in Pensacola around 1794. At the time of the 1820 census of Pensacola, I was 26 years old, single, and working as a seamstress. I had a son named Adolfo, who was 3 years old. I lived with two other free women of color, Mariana Alba (who may have been my mother) and Genoveva Ham. By the time of the changing of the flags, I had another child, Maria Ana Alba, born May 24, 1821.
