Adelaide Petit

Photo representing Adelaide Petit

Represented by Betty Ellis

I represent Adelaide Petit, a free woman of color. I am listed in the 1820 census of Pensacola as Delaida Suriac, which may indicate a previous connection to the Chouriac family. I have one documented son, Baptiste Bernardo, through whom I had four grandchildren who were born into slavery in my household but whom I later freed at his request: Eusebia Angela Bernard, Dominga Mariana Bernard, Valerio Baptiste Bernard, and Adelaide Bernard. I later also freed their mother, Gertrude.
