I represent Eusebia Angela Petit, a mulata girl born in Pensacola in 1817. I was born into slavery, but when I was baptized by Father Coleman at St. Michael’s on May 22, 1818, my owner (and grandmother) freed me. At the time of the 1820 census in Pensacola, I was 3 years old. I was the granddaughter of Adelaide Petit by her son, Baptiste Bernardo and an enslaved woman owned by Adelaide named Gertrudis. My freedom was confirmed by a deed of manumission in 1826.
