Luis Laureano (de Alba)

represent Luis Laureano, a boy of color enslaved in the household of Doña Constanza Tala de Alba. I was baptized by Father Coleman at St. Michael’s on July 29, 1821, a few weeks after my birth. I was born on July 4, 1821, so I was a newborn at the time of the changing of the flags. My mother was Maria Rosa, a negra woman enslaved in the same household. I was born into slavery by virtue of her enslaved status. My father is listed as no conocido (unknown) but that usually means that the man either did not want or was not able to acknowledge me. I had an older brother named Luis Felix.

All three of us: my mother, my brother, and I, are listed among the property Don Pedro left to his grandson, Juan de Alba, in his 1835 will.
