Maria Rosa (de Alba)

I represent Maria Rosa, an enslaved woman in the household of Don Pedro de Alba. I was mentioned in the 1819 case of F.T. Commyns vs. E. Latady in a listing of the property Don Pedro gave to his son on the eve of his son’s marriage to Constance de Tala, and later returned by Constance de Tala. I was 22 years old at the time of the gift.

I appear in the 1818 and 1821 St. Michael’s baptismal records of my sons, Luis Felix and Luis Laureano (their father was not specified). I was also listed in Don Pedro’s 1835 will, which bequeathed all his property to his grandson, Juan de Alba. (In my second son’s baptismal record, our owner is not Don Pedro, but his wife, Doña Constanza Tala de Alba, so it was just after his son’s wedding.)

All three of us: I and my two sons, are listed among the property Don Pedro left to his grandson, Juan de Alba, in his 1835 will.
