I represent Octavia Celestia Valentine Walton. I was the daughter of George and Sarah Minge Walker Walton, and the granddaughter of George Walton, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and his wife, Dorothy Walton. I was born in 1810 in Augusta, Georgia, so I was a child at the time of the changing of the flags. My father was appointed by General Andrew Jackson to be the Secretary of the Territory of West Florida under the new American government. I moved with them to Pensacola in 1821. By all accounts I was a smart young woman, and was tutored in languages by Henry Brackenridge, despite his dislike of my father. My father served as acting Governor of the Florida Territory after Jackson left, then as Mayor of Mobile. I stayed with my mother after my parents separated due to his legal and financial indiscretions. I married French physician Henry S. LeVert and became a writer and socialite who traveled extensively and was acquainted with some of the best minds of my day. I died in Augusta in 1877.
